If you know me you surely know that jazz is one of my passions, as is the whole of music for that matter. Jazz is such a unique art form and there is so much to explore. Needless to say that is why I was really excited about the opportunity to design a poster for the 2019 Jazz Heritage Festival in New Orleans. I am in the process of working with a connection on the committee who will be making the selection from the hundreds of submissions. This is just in the preliminary phase but I thought I would share some of my idea(s) here. *(for more go to the Promotional + Editorial tab above.)
I was inspired in-part by Paula Scher best known for her "Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk" posters featuring tap phenom Savion Glover circa 1980's. Her then unique mix of typography and a decidedly Russian Constructionist style made for some great results.
The thought behind this particular solution, featuring New Orleans jazz great Louis Armstrong, is to make them collectables by featuring different archival images of prominent musicians from across the spectrum of jazz.
Wish me luck with this!!
